Kids can be surprisingly difficult customers to satisfy. They want a cool bed, but they don’t always know what that involves. They don’t usually understand the concept of a budget either! There are ways to satisfy them if you combine fun and creativity with utilitarian practicality though. The key is getting that balance right.

If you get your heads together, it’s not too difficult to come up without great ideas that won’t break the bank. These tips should point you in the right direction, enjoy!

Get The Kids Involved

It is their bedroom, after all, so let them have a say in what it looks like. Kids have fantastic imaginations too; they’ll come up with ideas you’d never have thought of. This could be as simple as letting them choose which colours they want for the bed or having them help make it.

Also, if they design it, they can’t complain about it later! Well, actually, I suppose they can.

Make It Comfy

A bed is useless if it’s not comfortable. And you’ll never hear the last of it if your child doesn’t like sleeping in it! Use good quality bedding and sheets. And get a good quality mattress from http://www.johnryancontemporary.co.uk and consider a mattress topper if you want some extra comfort.

Pillows are a big factor too. Get two, fresh pillows for the bed, don’t rely on those old flat ones.

Make Sure It’s Durable

Children like to run around and jump around. This means they’re likely to jump on the bed. The last thing you want is for the bed to break as soon as they jump on it. Not only is this pretty dangerous, but it will be a nightmare having to replace or repair a bed you’ve only just installed.

Use good solid wood like timber and make sure you know what you’re doing if you’re assembling it by yourself. You could hire a handyman to put it together and install it if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Pick a Theme

A great bed can act as the centrepiece of a themed room. If your child likes racing cars, why not make their bed into one and design the rest of the room as a race track. Kids love that kind of design when they’re young.

There are literally hundreds of themes you can choose from. This can be quite expensive though, and you might need a bespoke bed, so keep that in mind.

Don’t be a Slave to Trends and Fashions

As you should know by now, trends and fashions come and go. This is something both you and your child need to be reminded. If you make a custom bed, that’s modelled on a current tv show that your son or daughter likes, be aware that in 6 months time your child may have decided they don’t like it anymore.

It’s safer to choose something that will age well and could be suited or modified for an older child. Because as much as you might dislike it, they’re going to grow up sooner or later!
