With summer on the way, I have been thinking a lot about how I can get my little ones to spend more time outside.

If you are struggling to get your kids to spend time outside, don’t worry you aren’t alone. With hundreds of TV channels to choose from, encouraging your children to spend time outside can be tough.

However, according to a friend of mine, the key to getting the kids outside more is giving the garden a revamp. Your yard should be a fun area that your kids are happy to spend time in, somewhere that they love.

To help you revamp your garden and transform it into a space your little monsters will love, here are some tips and design ideas:

Create a play area

If your kids have their own play area outside, you will never get them out of it. Before you panic and think that creating a play area for your children will be expensive, understand that it doesn’t have to be. You can easily create a fantastic play area for your children on a budget.

Just because you can’t afford expensive play equipment, that doesn’t mean you can’t create a fantastic play area.

The key to giving your kids the play area of their dream is to build it instead of buying it. To build an amazing play area for your kids, all you need is some wood, tools and a free weekend, and you can create the perfect play area.

If you want to keep the children’s area of the garden separate, you could use a painted picket fence to section it off.

Make your garden rural

To give your garden a gorgeous summer look, think about planting some rural type plants. You could also add some wild berry bushes to your garden as well – just make sure only to add edible ones.

Growing fruit bushes isn’t as hard as you would think, it’s actually relatively easy. The best thing about growing your own wild berries is that your kids can pick and eat them whenever they like.

Add outdoor activities to the space

While a play area is great, kids get bored easily, so it pays to have some other activities in place. These activities don’t have to be expensive; they can just be simple games.

Things like giant chess, checkers, and Jenga are all ideal outdoor games for kids to play. Swing ball is also another perfect outdoor activity – it’s fun, easy to play and not too expensive to buy.

If money is tight, have a look at second hand selling sites for deals on old garden toys and games. You can find some amazing bargains on these sites, so it’s always worth taking a look.

You might think that making your garden into a more child-friendly space is a massive job, but it doesn’t have to be. All it takes is a few toys and games, and you can give your children an outdoor space that they love.
