Why I Love Slow Cookers

A nice home cooked meal, something that has become a little bit of an anomaly in today’s society. Being a father of four, it can be tough to get a meal on the table that everyone loves, and has the nutritional value that I demand in my cooking. I do have one solution, though: bring in the slow cooker, to which for me is one of the culinary world’s greatest achievements. No longer was I being bombarded with time constraints and was able to give myself more freedom as a whole.

As I mentioned earlier, one of the defining attributes of the slow cooker is its ability to manage time effectively any day of the week, as well as its ability to cook safely while out of the house. Whether I was driving to soccer practice or band, I always had a feeling of security knowing that when I arrived home, I would be welcomed by the various aromas flooding the house. Not to mention, the ability to set the temperature, which in turn allows you to get those deep flavors and tenderness in your meat dishes. No longer did I have my face pressed against the oven door waiting and waiting for the dish to be perfectly done.

I really admire the amount of variety something like a slow cooker can give you. Usually getting a lot of attention as the device that’s “easy” or makes dishes that “simple”, I can tell you as a “foodie” the amount of creative choice it gives you is quite astounding. Some of the dishes that i like to prepare include a warm tortilla soup that cradles you on those cold winter days, a slow roasted chicken for the times when i have more items on my “To Do List” than i have ingredients in my kitchen and a nice slow simmered meat sauce, which always gets an applause for everyone as soon as it hits the table.

In all, my love for cooking has really translated well to the slow cooker. I honestly at times find myself using it more than my pots and pans. Which of course isn’t a bad thing, seeing its ability to manage time, cook dishes to perfection and give your family something they are going to enjoy, and come back for seconds. As a family man, I would recommend anyone who needs to cook for a larger group, or anyone in general to give the slow cooker a try, you never know what you might come up with!
